EPWN: interview with Malika on ZDNet.fr

EpwnmalikamirsilberMalika Mir-Silber, réseau EPWN: «Notre club de dirigeantes veut montrer des réussites au féminin, sans être féministe» Par Sylvaine Luckx
ZDNet France - Mercredi 8 mars 2006 (full article)

Earlier today, I was looking for blogs about EPWN on google: I found that article posted on ZDNet.fr.

I met Malika a couple of years ago at an excellent EPWN event in Paris. Malika is very dynamic and successful, with an impressive career in IT and at Microsoft. Congratulations for that interview!

UK - "Cost" of a mother? £25,000 per year

(UK) Mothers do an average of £25,000 worth of work around the house - double the level of men, research shows. They spend around 66 hours a week on household chores, including childcare, cooking and cleaning. Men put in just 34 hours.

So, who would dare to say that being a mother at home isn't a full-time job?

    Lucky number Slevin

Luckynumberslevin"Set in New York City, a case of mistaken identity lands Slevin (Josh Hartnett) in the middle of a war being plotted by two of the city's most rival crime bosses: The Rabbi (Ben Kingsley) and The Boss (Morgan Freeman). Slevin is under constant surveillance by relentless Detective Brikowski (Stanley Tucci) as well as the infamous assassin Goodkat (Bruce Willis) and finds himself having to hatch his own ingenious plot to get them...before they get him."

This movie was a very good surprise: the trailer was quite funny, but I read some poor critics (a bit like the Life of David Gale, with the brilliant Kevin Spacey, which I found excellent)

The cast is impressive (from Bruce Willis to Lucy Liu) and the bad guys "The Rabbi" and "The Boss" are brilliantly played by two of the greatest movie stars.

There is a twist about 30mn before the end: great finish!

Linkedin: "Post a job" is quick & easy

LinkedinpostajobToday, I had the opportunity to use the "Post a job" feature on Linkedin.

It is very easy and quick: you fill a couple of fields to customize your ad in terms of look and information available (please note you can save a draft at anytime)

The cost for one ad for 30 days is $95: you pay online with a credit card.

Then, you can make the most of the excellent Linkedin and use your portfolio of contacts: you can push the ad to all (or part of) your contacts.

Passado: Europe's biggest social networking site?

Passadonetworking_1 I registered a couple of months ago, but I must admit I am not using Passado.

I have received an email earlier today, and they claim to be Europe's biggest social networking website with 4.5m members.

    Members: registered vs active
One more time, I would be curious to find out how many of those members are active users. How many profiles are accurate?

    Remarks
    * I did not have enough time to properly test the interface: I would say that it is Very Slow... to update your profile or upload pictures.
    * There are loads of bugs
    * They claim to provide "now a totally FREE service": I will find out what their business model is!

Accoona: a future alternative to Google?

Accoona_1 Have you already tried Accoona? It is a new internet search service, launched last week.

It is led by Eckhard Pfeiffer, former Chief Executive of Compaq and Gary Kasparov is a shareholder. Accoona attracted more than $100m in backing.

It allow users to easily narrow their searches to particular sites, time periods, countries and other criteria to product more relevant results.

It is also launching a Chinese site, and plans a European site.

UK - Internet & Mobile phones have dramatically increased our expectations

Remember, or try to imagine, how we communicated only 15 years ago: regular phones (fixed-line), fax, telex... and no email.

Cellphones and Internet have dramatically increased our productivity at work, and changed our day-to-day lives. Nowadays, you can contact anyone at anytime. And most of the time, you expect people to be reachable, or to get back to you straight away.

UK - Study to better understand the world of cyberspace etiquette
I have recently read an interesting article about a study recently commissioned in the UK. Please find below some "morceaux choisis".
    * "Nearly a half of office workers consider it rude not to receive a reply to an e-mail within a morning"
    * "5% thinks it is impolite not to get one within 5mn of sending a message"
    * "2 in 5 mobile users expect a response to a text message within an hour before taking offence"
    * "Nearly 25% expect a response in 5mn"

    Impressive, isn't it?

    Blackberry
Do you have a blackberry? It is a fantastic device if like me you are traveling a lot and you are managing people: clients are obviously very pleased to easily get hold of you. But now that you follow up emails on the go, wait a minute and think about your colleagues and your expectations... ;)

Renaissance: congratulations to my friend Marc Miance!

    Renaissanceattitudestudio_2

I am really pleased for one of my old friends, Marc Miance.
As far as I can remember (and I met Marc 12 years ago), Marc had always wanted to realize such a movie in 3D.
Marc is one of the most passionate people I know, and highly successful too. Indeed, he is the Founder and President of Attitude Studio.

Marc and his team have been working so hard on the project Renaissance, and I am thrilled to see the movie is going to be released on 15th March 2006 in France!
Marc is credited for the Original Visual Concept: CONGRATULATIONS!

    The reviews are extremely positive:
