The last four days have proved incredibly positive for South Africa's FNB.
During that short period of time, the South African bank enjoyed a high volume of positive conversations on facebook AND on twitter.
FNB is unarguably the most engaged South African financial institution on social media, led by one of the most active banking CEOs on twitter worldwide.
Wondering what happened in the last four days? Find out more about two events and initiatives which took FNB's reputation of being customer centric and innovative to the next level.

I'm currently in the middle of the Visible Banking Asia Pacific tour. I've landed in Sydney a couple of days ago after a successful week in Singapore ponctuated, among other things, by a social media workshop in Bangkok and a well attended book launch party with the likes of Standard Chartered, OCBC, DBS Bank, Maybank, Visa.
On Monday, Tracy Hicks - PR Advisor at Commonwealth Bank of Australia invited me to attend their event for the launch of their latest mobile banking application 'Kaching' ('#CBAAnnouncement on twitter). The event took place yesterday morning at the CBA building on Harbour street.
The leading Australian bank, which has started to celebrate its 100 years, did a good job building the level of excitement and interest with this well executed product launch. Well done to Tracy and her PR colleagues.
This initiative reminded me of FNB's recent event to support the launch of their own mobile banking app for smartphones. The South African bank's launch was extremely smart and successful: the bank invited a lot of influencial and vocal bloggers which helped them generate a lot of buzz online, sustain excellent conversations and capture valuable feedback from the get go, trend on twitter for days, and earn a high volume of online coverage (earned media).
My expectations were high. So, how innovative is CBA's new mobile app? And how successful was the PR launch event? Let's find out now.

The regular readers of my Vsible Banking blog know how closely I've been following Aman Narain's Global Remote Banking Team in the last few years.
In the last couple of years, by constantly innovating, they managed to establish Standard Chartered's Breeze as one of the leading banks - if not The leading bank - in the mobile banking space.
Indeed, Aman and his team have been busy: they successfully launched a number of crowdsourcing initiatives ('the World's Coolest Intern' and 'the Inmode' contests), and several products and services innovations such as the wishlist (an online goal-based savings 'a la SmartyPig' with social media integration) or a number of location-based services (iphone apps like Breeze Living) leveraging their business partnerships and their food explorer programmes in India and UAE...
I look forward to catching up with the Breeze team in the next couple of weeks in Singapore.
Earlier this week, I received an email from Asif Saleem - Head of Channel Analytics and Migration who reminded me of Standard Chartered's achievements in the online banking space too: the team have now added over a million new online banking active customers during the last 2 years to their channel. This has been possible with a series of pull and push initiatives with almost 60% of the funds transfer and payment transactions that are happening with in the bank being online.
In his email, Asif shared the initial results of one of Standard Chartered's latest initiatives: inviting their online banking customers to rate the experience and contribute to promote SC's Net Promoter Score
